Romania Refuses Huawei To Build A 5G Network Project

JAKARTA - Romania has reportedly banned China and its technology company Huawei from participating in the procurement of 5G technology. The Romanian government itself has agreed with the United States' policy of banning Chinese technology companies from taking part.

The European continent has become an arena for technology battles between China and the US, as has Huawei and its European competitors, namely Ericsson and Nokia. The reason is, if Huawei does not have access to the 5G network, the two companies will have a great opportunity to handle the project.

"The government has just approved a very important bill for Romania, sealing the 2019 memorandum signed in Washington, which means that China and Huawei are excluded from any possible 5G partnership", said Pavel Popescu, a member of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce, Friday, April 16th.

Romania itself is an ally of the US. Where the trade war between the US and China hampered many technology industries

On the other hand, despite being included in the US blacklist, currently Huawei is continuing to prepare its 5G technology infrastructure. Huawei also denied allegations by the US and its allies that it was carrying out espionage in the interests of China.

Just like the US policy blocking Huawei, Romania also expressed the same reasons, namely for the sake of national security. "National security is the main goal, and protecting the personal data of future generations of Romania is very important", said Popescu.

In the new draft law, the Romanian government states that vendor positions are subject to foreign orders, transparent ownership structures, and obeying the law.
