Indonesian Paralympics Will Hunt For Athletes For The 2028 Paralympics

JAKARTA Indonesia's National Paralympic Committee (NPC) will hunt athletes to all provinces in the country for the 2028 Paralympics long-term program in Los Angeles, United States.

Chairman of the Indonesian NPC, Senny Marbun, said that this program is part of athlete regeneration to pursue long-term achievements.

"We have to dare to go to the regions. If we don't dare to go to the regions, I think it is impossible for us to get high-quality materials," Senny said in a statement received.

Blusukan yang dilakukan ke 38 provinsi itu akan dimulai dari Maret sampai Desember 2025. Bibit-bit atlet muda hasil pantauan dari program ini nantinya menjalani pemusatan latihan di Solo.

This activity will target young athletes with a maximum age of 23 years. Each province is also given a target of up to 100 athletes to be monitored by a team of experts from NPC Indonesia.

The athletes to be seen consist of three categories, namely physical obstacles (50 percent), intellectual obstacles (25 percent), and visual barriers (25 percent). In total there will be 100 selected athletes to undergo training camps.

Senny said that the training camp that took place in Solo would last for three months to measure each other's potential.

"We will see what it is capable of, whether its achievements are possible for us to build. Then, we will also see how willing and how mentally it is," he said.

The Indonesian contingent recently won 14 medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. That includes one gold medal obtained from the mixed doubles Hikmat Ramdani/Leani Ratri Oktila.

In addition, Indonesia has also succeeded in becoming the overall champion of the 2017, 2022 and 2023 ASEAN Para Games editions.
