Patrick Kluivert Sah Becomes Indonesian National Team Coach Replace Shin Tae-yong
JAKARTA - Former Dutch national team player Patrick Kluivert is said to have reached an agreement with PSSI to replace coach Shin Tae Yong (STY).
This was conveyed by renowned soccer journalist Fabrizio Romano through his X social media account a few hours after STY's dismissal on Monday, January 6, 2025.
"Patrick Kluivert will sign a contract as the new Indonesian head coach. An agreement has been reached," reads a tweet written by Fabrizio.
Kluiver is actually one of several names that echoed before PSSI officially announced a breakup with Shin Tae Yong.
PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir in a press statement regarding STY's dismissal also did not deny the rumors related to the former Barcelona and AC Milan players.
He admitted that Kluivert had been interviewed on an occasion in Europe some time ago. However, the SOE Minister has not confirmed for sure.
Erick only said that the new coach of the Indonesian national team will land in Indonesia on Saturday, January 11, 2025 night and will be introduced on Sunday, January 12, 2025 afternoon.
This was confirmed by Fabrizio in his post. The post also details the contract period and the big target that a new coach must achieve with the Indonesian national team.
"Two-year contract plus two-year extension option. Presentation will take place on January 12 in Indonesia. The target is to achieve World Cup Qualification," wrote Fabrizio.
Kluiverts so far already have track records as assistant coaches at several clubs and national teams, including Brisbane Rour, AZ Alkmaar, NEC Nijmegen, the Dutch national team, and the Cameroonian national team.
In addition, he has also served as a coach at Jong Twente, the National Curacao, Ajax national teams at a young age, and Adana Demirspor. However, his report card as a coach is not yet striking.
