Reasons For Babies To Be Prohibited From Using Neck Shelters, From Injury To Death

The FDA says the buoy could cause tension or neck injury, especially in infants with special needs. In November of the same year, the CPSC warned parents not to use Otteroo buoys, citing the death of a baby.

Reporting from the US Food and Drug page, there is a risk of using a baby's neck buoy including drowning and sinking deaths, as well as pressure and injuries to the baby's neck.

The FDA learned that one case of infant mortality and one case of a baby was hospitalized regarding the use of a baby's neck buoy. In both cases, the baby suffered an injury when the caregiver was watching the baby.

For this reason, the FDA informs parents, caregivers, and health care providers of risks for infants who use neck buoys, especially babies with development delays or special needs.
