Tesla Sets New Car Sales Record In China Throughout 2024, Up This Way From The Previous Year
JAKARTA - Tesla recorded a positive sales achievement in China during 2024. Sales of car brands from the United States rose 8.8 percent from 2023, with a total of 604,000 units.
Quoting from Carnewschina, Saturday, January 4, 2025, Tesla's sales in the world's largest car market also increased 12.8 percent in December 2024 with a total of 83,000 units from the previous month.
Meanwhile, Tesla also managed to export 10,766 electric vehicles from China in December 2024, bringing the total cumulative sales to 93,766 units. Total exports reached 259,485 units.
In total, Tesla's sales in China (including exports) became 916,660 units, down 3.3 percent from 2023 which reached a total of 947,742 units.

Although sales rose in China, globally its shipment fell 1.1 percent with a total of 1,789,226 units of electric vehicles. Globally, it missed the expectations of CEO Elon Musk, who previously said that he had experienced growth.
With global sales a full year reaching 1.79 million cars, Tesla is still narrowly ahead of BYD, whose electric vehicle sales grew 12.1 percent to 1.76 million globally.
Tesla's global decline in sales was allegedly for several reasons, such as reducing subsidies in Europe, transitioning hybrid vehicles, to increasingly fierce global competition, especially from BYD, a Chinese brand that continues to innovate.
