KKP Targets Production Of 2.25 Million Tons Of Salt This Year

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) targets to produce 2.25 million tons of consumption salt by 2025. This target is an effort to self-sufficiency in salt after the closure of salt imports starting January 2025.

"The domestic production plan for 2025 is 2.25 million tons. If the remaining 836,000 shares are added, the local salt supply has met 63 percent of the total needs," said Director General of Marine Management and Marine Space of the KKP, Victor Gustaaf, in a written statement, Saturday, January 4, 2025.

Victor said that this year the Indonesian people's consumption of salt is estimated at 4.9 million tons and is predicted to increase by 2.5 percent per year. You see, there is population growth and growth in the industrial sector.

Regarding the unsatisfied amount of salt production and the amount of salt needed, Victor said it could actually be a field or opportunity for other pond entrepreneurs.

"The rest is certainly a big and promising business opportunity for producers of salt raw materials, both people's salt farmers and business entities," he said.

In its production, the KKP plans to make Indramayu the main production site for salt in Indonesia.

"Indramayu will be the main focus of infrastructure development, training on farmers and access to financing," he said.

According to Victor, Indramayu has enormous potential to be used as a salt production center in Indonesia. The area, he said, has a productive land area of 1,445.65 hectares with a total production of 135,891.10 tons.

"The productivity is around 94 tons per hectare," he said.

Meanwhile, for stock, Indramayu has 25,000 tons of salt spread across four sub-districts, namely Krangkeng, Losarang, Kandanghaur, and Patrol sub-districts.

Not only that, to produce more salt than before imports were closed, the KKP also encouraged technological innovation in the salt production process. Victor gave an example of using the geomembran method.

"This method has proven to improve the quality and quantity of salt produced by local farmers," he said.
