The Government Does Not Increase Electricity Tariffs For 13 Customer Groups, Instead Gives 50 Percent Discount
JAKARTA - The government has set electricity tariffs for the first quarter of 2025 or January to March 2025 for 13 groups of non-subsidized PT PLN (Persero) customers, aka no change.
In addition, the government also provides a 50 percent discount on electricity rates.
The Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman P Hutajulu, explained that the electricity tariff for non-subsidized customers is basically adjusted every three months.
The tariff adjustment refers to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs provided by PT PLN (Persero).
Jisman said tariff adjustments took into account changes in the realization of macroeconomic parameters, namely the exchange rate, the raw demand price of Indonesia or the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and reference coal prices (HBA).
Furthermore, he said, electricity tariffs for the first quarter of 2025 were set using the realization of macroeconomic parameters from August to October 2024, which should have led to an increase in electricity rates.
"However, it was decided that the electricity tariff in the first quarter of 2025 would remain, which is the same as the electricity tariff for the fourth quarter of 2024," said Jisman in a written statement, Wednesday, January 1.
50 Percent Electricity Tariff Discount For Households
In addition, the government also provides a stimulus in the form of a 50 percent discount on electricity rates to PLN household customers who target 81.42 million customers.
The 50 percent discount is given to PLN household customers with a power of 450 VA, 900 VA, 1,300 VA, and 2,200 VA.
This discount is valid for two months, namely January and February 2025.
The provisions for this electricity tariff discount are regulated in the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 348.K/TL.01/MEM.L/2024 concerning the Discount of Electricity Costs for Household Consumers of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero).
Jisman explained that the 50 percent discount was given as part of an incentive package in the economic sector which aims to maintain purchasing power and improve people's welfare.
He said the discount on electricity costs was carried out automatically through the PLN system.
For postpaid customers, they will get a 50 percent discount from the electricity cost account for usage in January 2025 (which will be paid in February 2025), and for usage in February 2025 (which will be paid in an account in March 2025).
Meanwhile, prepaid customers are given a direct discount when purchasing electricity tokens in January and February 2025. That way, the public can simply pay a token price of half the previous month's purchase to get the same kWh.
"People are also expected to use electrical energy more efficiently and wisely to support energy independence," he said.
