The Viral 14 Iphone Thief In West Jakarta Turns Out To Be Employees, In Debt Rp.106 Million
JAKARTA - Members of the West Jakarta Metro Police arrested a shop employee with the initials GL who stole 14 units of Iphone Pro Max worth around Rp 200 million at the Sedayu Square Cengkareng Home Office.
"The perpetrator has admitted his actions. The reason is because he is urged to pay a debt of Rp106 million," said West Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Ady Wibowo in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Thursday, April 15.
Ady said that GL was in debt because of participating in fraudulent investments using funds from friends. When it matures and the money cannot be withdrawn from the investment, then the perpetrator is desperate to break into the shop where he works.
The GL perpetrator carried out his action on Sunday, April 4 at 22.30 WIB, after the shop was closed and deleted evidence in the form of hidden camera recordings.
However, GL's action was discovered after the police carried out the crime scene (TKP).
After looting, the suspect sold all the stolen cell phones online and fled to Surabaya, East Java.
Head of West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKBP Teuku Arsya Khadafi added that his party confiscated 12 stolen cell phones from the hands of the perpetrators.
"Eight units are already on the expedition but can be secured, four units are still in the perpetrator's boarding house, while two units are still in search," said Arsya.
From the results of this theft, GL was able to earn a profit of around Rp. 198 million to Rp. 200 million.
In connection with his actions, GL was charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with weighted so that he could be sentenced to seven years in prison.
