BMKG Returns To Issue Rob Flood Early Warning In NTT
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has again issued an early warning related to the potential for tidal flooding in the coastal areas of NTT Province which is predicted to occur until Thursday, January 2.
"BMKG has issued an early warning of tidal flooding on the coast of NTT which is valid on January 1 - 2, 2025," said Head of the Tenau Maritime Meteorological Station Yandri Anderudson Tungga in a report received by ANTARA in Kupang, Tuesday, December 31.
Yandri explained that the tidal flood or coastal flooding was caused by the phenomenon of a new moon phase.
"The new moon phase that occurred on December 31, 2024, has the potential to cause an increase in the maximum sea level," he explained.
Based on data monitoring, predictions of ups and downs, wind speed, and the potential for moderate rainfall, this new moon phase affects coastal dynamics in the NTT region in the form of potential tidal flooding.
Furthermore, Yandri said there were six areas on the coast of the island-based province that were affected by the tidal flood phenomenon.
The six areas include the coast of Flores Island, Alor, the coast of Rote Island, Sabu Raijua, the coast of Sumba Island, and the coast of Timor Island.
Regarding the impact of the tidal flood phenomenon, he explained that the tidal phenomenon had an impact on activities in coastal settlements, salt and fishery pond activities, as well as loading and unloading activities at ports.
"This tidal flood can have an impact on community activities around the coast and ports," he added.
