Deputy Governor Riza Patria: Cipinang Melayu Floods Due To GBK Development
JAKARTA - Floods again submerged residential areas in Cipinang Melayu, East Jakarta, Wednesday, April 15 yesterday. Deputy Governor of DKI, Ahmad Riza Patria, said that Cipinang Melayu often experienced flooding due to the construction of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK).
Riza said, Cipinang Melayu became one of the areas whose surface was dredged during the construction of GBK decades ago. As a result, the land surface in Cipinang Melayu has become low.
"Cipinang Melayu is indeed different. Many reasons, including in the past, when we built the GBK, the land was taken from there, from Condet, Kalibata. So, it used to be a puddle. Due to the difficulty of the land by residents, it was turned into a settlement," said Riza at Balai DKI City, Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 15.
Therefore, currently the DKI Water Resources (SDA) Department is looking for solutions to minimize the impact of flooding in Cilinang Melayu.
"Among them are the concepts that we have conveyed there, a flat or rusunami must be built and the bottom is empty. When the dry season becomes a basement and a place to play. When it rains, floods, it becomes a water storage place," he explained.
The flood again submerged residential areas in Cipinang Melayu, East Jakarta, as a result of the overflow of Sunter River, on Wednesday, April 14th, until early Thursday, April 15th.
According to one of the Cipinang Melayu PPSU officers, Agus, the floods that inundated the settlements had occurred due to the high intensity of rain since yesterday afternoon which caused the Sunter River to overflow.
"Due to the rain in the upstream. Now it has started to recede," said Agus.
According to one of the residents affected by the flood, Yati, the overflow of Sunter River began to inundate his settlement on Wednesday, April 14, at around 18.30 WIB.
As a result of the overflow of the Sunter River, the settlements in his house were inundated with water up to one meter high.
