Central PWI LKBPH Kutuk Burns Editor's Office In Bogor
Jakarta Chairman of the Legal Aid and Enforcement Consultant Institute of the Indonesian Journalists Association (LKBPH PWI Pusat), HMU Kurniadi, strongly condemned the burning of the Daily Pakuan Raya (Pakar) editor's office in Bogor on Saturday morning, December 28, 2024.
Kurniadi urged the police to immediately arrest the perpetrators and reveal the mastermind behind the incident. "We ask the police to work quickly and professionally in investigating this case. Press independence must be protected," said Kurniadi at Diponegoro University, Semarang.
According to him, this action is a tangible form of threat to press freedom that has the potential to create fear among journalists. If this incident is allowed, freedom of the press will be further eroded. "Actions like this are horror for the press world and should not happen in a state of law," he stressed.

He also highlighted that if the arson was related to the news, legal steps would remain the only solution. "Even if there is dissatisfaction with the news, the resolution must go through the Press Council, not with acts of violence like this," added Kurniadi.
Kurniadi hopes that the police will immediately uncover this case to ensure that the perpetrator and the party responsible are punished according to the applicable law. "We fully support the police to work professionally in uncovering this case," concluded the advocate who is also known as the anti-corruption activist.
