Ahead Of Facing Wolves, Tottenham Hotspur Crisis Middle-back
JAKARTA - Ahead of the Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday, December 29 at 22.00 WIB, Tottenham Hotspur are facing a crisis of their central defender injuries after Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, and most recently Radu Dragusin.
Romero and Van de Ven, who are the main choices, have long been sidelined after both were injured in their first game after recovering from injury this month against Chelsea and have missed Spurs' last four games in all competitions.
Ben Davies has suffered setbacks and missed a few more weeks, while Dragusin will be an additional candidate for the player who missed after he was forced off the pitch when he was beaten by Nottingham Forest on Thursday.
"It's too early to say, he has an ankle injury and feels he can't continue, so we have to wait and see," Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou said, citing ANTARA from the official Premier League website.
When asked about the options in his defense, Postecoglou replied, "Not much. We are in a difficult position. We have experienced it for a long time".
The only centre-back The Lilywhites has is 18-year-old defender Archie Gray who has started in five games in all competitions.
Apart from Gray, Spurs could also play Yves Bissouma as an emergency defender after the midfielder from Ivory Coast ended the match against Forest in that position while replacing Dragusin.
"I had to put him there last night because I didn't have anyone else, but we'll see. We'll see what happens," explained the Australian coach.
Apart from Romero, Van de Ven, and Davies who are definitely absent, as well as Dragusin who are still doubtful appear, Spurs will also be without defender Djed Spence against Wolves for serving a sentence of receiving two yellow cards against Forest.
Currently, Spurs occupy the eleventh position of the standings with 23 points from 18 matches where this number of points brings them closer to the relegation zone (nine points adrift of the top four (10 points adrift).
This number of points is also the worst in their last 16 seasons. In fact, if they win the game against Wolves, this is still the lowest point in the middle of the Premier League season since 2008/2009, when they get 20 points.
