Bruno Fernandes Red Carded, Manchester United Lost Against Wolves
JAKARTA - Captain Bruno Fernandes on the red card and Manchester United lost for the third time in a row in various competitions. Manchester United's losing hat trick came after being humiliated by Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in a Boxing Day match at the English Premier League at the Molineux Stadium, Friday, December 27, 2024 in the morning WIB.
Manager Ruben Amorim has not been able to get MU out of adversity. Even MU is increasingly sliding down and approaching the relegation zone after losing their fourth to the last five Premier League games.
Bad results when visiting Wolves headquarters also made MU record disappointing. They swallow three consecutive defeats in various competitions.
After losing 4-3 against Tottenham Hotspur which made MU eliminated in the Carabao Cup, Leandro Martinez et al then humiliated Bournemouth at Old Trafford. Unmitigated, Bournemouth finished United 3-0.
Most recently, MU had to admit the superiority of Wolves who actually lived in the relegation zone in Boxing Day matches or the day after Christmas. The success of defeating MU also brought blessings to Vitor Pereira, the new manager of Wolves. He brought his team to score two consecutive wins so that they managed to get out of the relegation zone.
Now, Wolves, who pocketed 15 points, are improving their ranking by ranking 17th or one strip above the relegation zone.
What about MU? The defeat in the Boxing Day match made MU fail to give a Christmas gift to fans. On the other hand, Wolves who presented the most beautiful gift with a win in the home match.
MU is getting worse and closer to the red zone than the top. Amorym is getting more and more confused because MU has not moved to a higher position and is now stuck in 14th place with 22. They are only eight points ahead of Leicester City who are ranked 18th or the top position of the team in the relegation zone.
In that match, MU had difficulties against Wolves. The striker Rasmus Hojlund, who was the mainstay on the front lines, did not move at all to face the strong defense of the hosts.
After going through the first half goalless, MU was finally under pressure. Especially after Fernandes was shown a red card in the 47th minute. The game has only been running for two minutes, this Portuguese national team player has committed a serious foul on his compatriot, Nelson Semedo.
Without mercy, Fernandes, who had pocketed a yellow card in the first half, also received a second yellow card which was followed by a red card. Playing with 10 players, Amorim acknowledged, made it difficult for MU to balance Wolves. Moreover, the Reds Devils have struggled to face Matheus Cunha et al.
"Even winning a game with 11 players in this league is really tough. Especially playing with 10 players, this makes it even more difficult," said Amorim.
"We have to fully focus. The player's red card really makes it difficult for us," he said.
The analysis of the former Sporting Lisbon coach did not miss. Wolves took advantage of the advantage of the number of players. Not even long ago, Andre Onana's goal had actually conceded.
Jorgen Strand Larsen's header which met Nelson Semedo's cross successfully ripped MU's goal in the 49th minute. But the goal was ruled out because Larsen was in an offside position.
After their efforts always failed, the patience of Wolves players finally paid off. In 58 minutes, Cunha scored a spectacular goal. This Brazil forward broke into the United goal straight from a corner that put Wolves 1-0 up.
MU tried to get up after being left behind. However, their efforts never came to fruition. Playing with 10 people really makes MU helpless.
Even Onana's goal conceded again in injury time. South Korean national team star Hee-Chan Hwang successfully solidified Wolves' victory in the 90+9 minute. The goal changed the position to 2-0 for Wolves and lasted until the game was over.
