Celebrate Christmas, Thousands Of Salemba Prison Prisoners Get Free Food Vouchers

JAKARTA - The Salemba Penitentiary (Lapas), Central Jakarta distributed free meal vouchers to thousands of inmates or inmates celebrating Christmas Day 2024.

This voucher can be used in the canteen in the Salemba prison. When distributed, the prisoner took turns receiving the paper-shaped voucher and worth Rp. 20,000.

Head of Salemba Class IIA Prison, Beni Hidayat said, this activity is an appreciation to the inmates who have participated in correctional training.

"Of course, our coaching program cannot run smoothly without the participation of the inmates, thus the reward in the form of vouchers is expected to be a motivation for other inmates," Beni told reporters, Wednesday, December 25.

With this regard, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of DKI Jakarta provided special remission 1 to 687 correctional inmates (WBP) or inmates throughout DKI Jakarta at the 2024 Christmas celebration.

"The 2024 Christmas Day remission was given to 687 inmates in Jakarta. 19 of them immediately went home (free) after receiving remission and the sentence expired," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office Andika Dwi Prasetya.

Meanwhile, at the Class 1 State Detention Center in Central Jakarta, Salemba, there were 1,949 prisoners (WBP). Among them 1,345 prisoners and 603 inmates.

Of these, 112 prisoners are Christians.

Plh Karutan Class 1 Central Jakarta, Aris Setiyawan explained, 60 people received Special Remission 1 on Christmas 2024. Meanwhile, 1 inmate received special remission.

"The percentage of prisoners who received remission was 64 percent of the total 603 inmates at the Salemba Detention Center," said Aris Setiyawan.
