SURABAYA - The Surabaya City Government, East Java deployed 25 fire engines (damkar) to suck up floods that hit a number of areas in the local city.

Head of the Surabaya City Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP), Laksita Rini Sevriani said heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit the city of Surabaya resulted in a number of trees falling and puddles in several areas.

"To overcome this condition, the ranks of the city government (Pemkot) immediately moved quickly," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 24.

He said as many as 25 fire engines were deployed to help extract puddles at a number of points.

"For flood management this afternoon, we from the Surabaya Fire Department team helped carry out suction at locations where there were puddles," he said.

According to him, the southern region of Surabaya City is a priority for handling due to the very high rainfall in the area.

"The rain is in the southernmost heavy area, so we are more important at the southern points, namely the Districts of Rungkut, Tenggilis Mejoyo, Margorejo, Jambangan, and Gayungsari," he said.

His party also ensured that the Surabaya City DPKP Team would continue to carry out suction until the puddles receded.

"We will continue to move optimally with our friends until conditions recede. If there are rivers that begin to recede, we can defecate directly into the river," he said.
