Settlement In Kendit Situbondo Hit By Flash Flood
SITUBONDO - Dozens of houses and public facilities in Kendit Village, Situbondo Regency, East Java, were hit by flash floods after heavy rains hit the area.
Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Situbondo Sruwi Hartanto said there were 86 houses in Kendit Village/District affected by flash floods.
"This flash flood started with heavy rain at aroundmeter WIB in Tambak Ukir Village and Rajekwesi Village or upstream villages, so that the C9 avor disposal river overflowed," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 24.
The overflowing river, continued Sruwi, hit a residential area around the riverbank and inundated the Kendit Village road to Tambak Ukir Village about 100 cm high.
The flood began to recede at around 15.00 WIB. BPBD officers and other relevant agencies together with the community began cleaning up mud and small pieces of wood waste.
"Until now, BPBD officers, TNI/Polri, Tagana, Scouts and other stakeholders are still working to clean up mud and garbage and wood carried by floods on village roads and to residents' homes," said Sruwi.

Flash floods also damaged several public facilities, such as the fence of one of the mosques in the village and the fence of one of the kindergartens.
"In addition to public facilities and residents' houses, the flood of river water carrying mud and small wood also inundated about 5 hectares of rice fields," said Sruwi.
