Indonesia Is In The Top 4 Countries That Gandrung Basketball
JAKARTA Indonesia sits in fourth position on the list of countries with a community playing basketball which has just been released by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
The international basketball parent released the list to coincide with one year World Basketball Day which falls on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
"We are very happy to finally be able to answer questions that have arisen for years. Of course it is very nice to be a witness to the extraordinary increase in the number of people playing basketball in the world," said FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zakglis.
In the list, Indonesia is recorded to be behind China in first place, India in second place, and the United States in third place. Indonesia is ahead of Mexico in fifth position.

The FIBA in the statement officially noted that there are more than 610 million people aged between six and 54 years from all over the world playing basketball at least twice a month.
Secretary General of PP Perbasi, Nirmala Dewi, welcomed the news from FIBA. He said the data shown by FIBA was the result of strong cooperation from all stakeholders in Indonesia.
"This is also a separate motivation for the management who recently received the mandate at the Perbasi National Conference on October 28, 2024," said Nirmala.
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world. FIBA estimates that currently it is more than 400 million people worldwide who are actively playing this sport.
On August 25, 2023, the General Assembly adopted Resolution A/RES/77/324 which set December 21 as World Basketball Day or World Basketball Day.
This date marks basketball played for the first time on December 21, 1891 at the International YMCA Training School at Springfield, Massachusetts.
