Weak EV Sales, Stellantis Suspends Production Of Two Maserati Models Until February 2025

JAKARTA - Bad news has returned to Stellantis. This multinational company has just announced it is extending the closure of the plant in Mirafiori, Italy, which assembles Fiat 500e until January 20. Previously, they only stopped production until January 5.

Tak hanya berdampak pada model Fiat 500e saja, penutupan pabrik ini juga berdampak pada Maserati GranTurismo dan GranCabrio yang dihentikan produksinya hingga 3 Februari.

Launching from Motor1, Monday, January 23, Stellantis has stopped production at its factory some time ago, including twice at the end of 2023 in September and October.

This move had to be taken by the company as sales of its electric vehicles were not as good as planned by the automakers, and automakers are now limiting production of electric vehicles while reconsidering their electrification efforts.

In addition to market uncertainty with demand for electric cars experiencing ups and downs, global and political economic factors still affect the production decisions of automotive manufacturers.

Previously, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares also blamed poor marketing for Maserati's unappreciative results. However, this also led the Portuguese man to make a sudden resignation letter at the start of the month due to disagreements between himself and the board of directors.

Stellantis has also announced the closure of the van Vauxhall factory in the UK. The closure of the plant has the potential to threaten more than 1,000 jobs in the region.

However, the company plans to offer job relocation options to several employees at the van Vauxhall plant. Stellantis plans to move some workers to the Ellesmere Port plant, which has invested 63 million US dollars to become an EV production center in northern England.
