5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Sukabumi, BMKG Asks To Beware Of Aftershocks

SUKABUMI An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 occurred in the southeast of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, on Monday, December 23, in the early hours of the morning.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), through its official website quoted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday morning, reported that the earthquake occurred at 00.05 WIB.

The location of the earthquake was at coordinates 9.54 South Latitude and 106.56 East Longitude, or about 283 km southeast of Sukabumi Regency, with a depth of 10 km. "BMKG ensures that the earthquake does not have the potential for a tsunami," he wrote.

Until now, the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has not received any reports of damage to buildings due to the earthquake centered at sea.

However, BMKG appealed to the public to remain vigilant against the possibility of aftershocks.
