PSSI Chairman Immediately Evaluates After The Indonesian National Team Fails To Escape To Seminifal

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir will conduct an evaluation after the Indonesian national team failed to advance to the semifinals of the 2024 ASEAN Cup.

The former Inter Milan president assessed that the failure of the Indonesian national team to advance to the semifinals of the 2024 ASEAN Cup should be a valuable lesson for coach Shin Tae-yong in dealing with the team, which is mostly under the age of 22.

"If asked, I want to win against Myanmar, win against Laos, and win against the Philippines. If there is a defeat against Vietnam, it is natural for the youth team. If later we give the best until the semifinals and then lose, it's okay but we have struggled to give the best," said PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, December 22.

"From the start, I told you that in this AFF we are targeting to give the best. When we talk, give the best, we should be able to at least qualify for the AFF Cup semifinals. So on this side, of course PSSI will conduct an evaluation," added Erick, who is also the Minister of SOEs.

STY's team certainly did not qualify for the semifinals after surrendering from the Philippines, 0-1 in the fourth match of Group B which took place at Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java, Saturday.

The only goal for the Filipino puppet was scored by Kristensen through the spot in the 63rd minute.

Erick emphasized that the composition of the players in the Garuda team, which is mostly 22 years old, is indeed projected to compete in the 2025 SEA Games.

But with Indonesia's failure to advance in the semifinals of the ASEAN Cup this time is an important note considering that in the SEA Games, competition from countries throughout Southeast Asia will also show the same strength as in this competition.

"This national team is projected to go to the 2025 SEA Games, as well as to defend the gold medal. Because it doesn't make it to the semifinals of this event, the competition is more or less the same as the SEA Games later, meaning that many things must be fixed immediately. The time is still enough. In just a year. So clean up, especially coaches also have to evaluate," said Erick.
