Apple Will Be Forced To Present AirDrop And AirPlay To Android Devices
JAKARTA Regulations in the European Union seem to be making it even more difficult for Apple. For the first time, the iPhone developer will be forced to bring the original iOS feature to Android-based devices.
This coercion plan was revealed after the European Commission released a document on 18 December. In the document, various plans are recorded by the European Union to bring the iOS feature to other operating systems.
Apple will be asked to open some of its features for non-Apple devices like AirDrop. If previously this feature could only be used by fellow iPhones, the European Commission rules would allow this feature to connect with Android phones.
"Apple will provide protocol specifications that provide third parties with all the information needed to integrate, access and control AirDrop protocols," the European Commission said in its document, citing from 9to5google.
Apart from AirDrop, the European Commission also wants to bring AirPlay to non-Apple devices. According to them, Apple is developing AirPlay capabilities unfairly because they are only compatible with iOS devices.
Unlike Cast's technology from Google which works on various platforms, such as Android or iOS. This rule will be discussed until January 9 and if Apple doesn't comply with its rules, the company may be fined.
It is not yet known whether Apple will agree or object to the document being made. Although in the end Apple will open the iOS feature to other devices, this policy will only apply in the European Union.
