Commission XIII DPR Asks Ministry Of Human Rights To Step In To Handle Attack Cases On Pulau Rempang
JAKARTA - Member of Commission XIII DPR RI, H. Mafirion asked the Ministry of Human Rights (HAM) to intervene in handling cases of attacks on residents on Pulau Rempang, by unknown people (OTK). Mafirion suspects that there have been human rights violations from the PSN Rempang Eco City conflict that has occurred since 2023.
"Forcing on the rights of the people, let alone to displacing the hometowns they have lived in for generations, from generations of forced violence is an act that violates human rights," Mafirion told reporters, Friday, December 20.
The PKB legislator for the Riau electoral district emphasized that there should be no more violence that befell the residents of Pulau Rempang. According to him, violence on any basis cannot be tolerated, including national strategic projects (PSN).
"There should be no more violence in Rempang and Galang in the name of the interests of national strategic projects," said Mafirion.
Mafirion reminded that law enforcement officers must be the party that protects citizens from potential conflicts with those working on PSN. Not the other way around, it actually makes people even more afraid.
"The people of Rempang and Galang are citizens who must be protected, not scared, let alone threatened," he said.
Mafirion also asked the government to imitate BP Batam in developing industrial estates in Batam. According to him, BP Batam can develop the area without carrying out evictions.
"That's why, until today there are still old villages in Batam, such as Batu Besar, Patam, Tanjung Piayu, Tanjung Uma, Bengkong," he concluded.
Previously reported, Pulau Rempang, Batam, Riau Islands, changed its gripping after security officers of PT Makmur Elok Graha (MEG) came to the residents guarding the village post.
This incident occurred on Wednesday, December 18, early in the morning, after residents managed to arrest PT MEG security officers who allegedly damaged banners against the National Strategic Project (PSN) Rempang Eco-city.
PT MEG security officers numbered dozens of people, coming by car and truck. They are suspected of directly attacking residents with sharp weapons and blunt objects. This thuggery act injured at least eight residents of Pulau Rempang.
