Increase Access To Clean Water And Overcome Stunting, Vice President Gibran Reviews SPAM Jatiluhur I Bekasi

JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka conducted a review of the Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) facility Jatiluhur I in Bekasi, West Java, Friday, December 20.

This infrastructure is part of a national strategic program (PSN) designed to increase public access to clean water while at the same time supporting stunting management efforts.

During his visit, Gibran emphasized the importance of clean water as one of the key elements in overcoming stunting in Indonesia.

"The President has very high attention to stunting. Stunting is not only a matter of nutrition, but also related to pregnant women, environmental cleanliness, sanitation, drainage, and especially water quality," said Gibran.

The Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM project is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's vision to realize water self-sufficiency, which aims to improve the quality of life of the community through better access to clean water.

Regional SPAM Jatiluhur I officially operates on Thursday, after starting construction on January 19, 2022. With a total capacity of 4,750 liters per second, this facility is projected to be able to serve up to 380,000 house connections (SR) in stages in the next five years.

This amount is equivalent to providing quality clean water for 1.9 million people in four areas, namely Jakarta, Bekasi, Bekasi Regency, and Karawang Regency.

Gibran asked the SPAM manager to ensure that water management is carried out in a sustainable manner, so that the benefits of this infrastructure can be felt by the community in the long term. "Managers must consistently maintain the quality and distribution of water according to national standards," he said.

This visit also aims to check the readiness of water supply to meet the needs of the people in the surrounding area. In addition, Gibran hopes that SPAM Jatiluhur I can be an example for similar projects in the future, given the importance of accessing clean water in improving public health and supporting sustainable development.

With the Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM, the government hopes to answer the challenges of distribution of clean water in urban areas and support integrated stunting alleviation efforts.
