Pelindo Predicts Ship Passengers To Reach 2.1 Million In The Christmas And New Year Period

JAKARTA - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo predicts the number of ship passengers has increased during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) holidays. In fact, it penetrated 2.1 million people.

Pelindo's Managing Director, Putut Sri Muljanto, said that the number of ship passengers in the Nataru period had increased by 12 percent.

"We estimate that this year there will be a passenger growth of around 12 percent from last year's 1.9 million years to 2.1 million people in all ports for both Pelni passengers and Roro ships," he said at a press conference at the Ministry of SOEs office, Jakarta, Thursday, December 19.

In welcoming Nataru's transportation, Putut said Pelindo also ensured that the services and facilities provided were running optimally. Especially in ensuring that passenger transfers between passenger terminals continue to run smoothly.

"To deal with the Nataru flow this year, we ensure that the current of Nataru sea transportation runs optimally supported by the existence of the Integrated Nataru Transportation Post which operates 24 hours which functions as a monitoring, coordination and information center in monitoring passenger comfort and safety conditions," Putut tour.

Furthermore, Putut said Pelindo had also made several anticipations in maintaining the surge in the flow of passengers and goods ahead of the peak of the Nataru current.

Among them are the preparation of tents with additional seats, the availability of portable toilets, the addition of internal operational officers and security from the TNI/Polri, and the increase in inspection of passenger luggage.

"As well as facilitating ship operators to publish passenger rates at passenger terminals," he said.

Putut added that his party has also prepared supporting facilities at Ciwandan Port if necessary to break down the queue density at Merak-Bakauheni Port in serving ships during the Nataru period.

He said Ciwandan Port has a dock with a length of 131 meters, buffers for motorbike parking areas with a capacity of 2,000 units and logistics parking with a capacity of 200 units.

"We are also preparing additional buffer areas to cooperate with IKPP Port to support vehicles that will be integrated to Merak Port," explained Putut.

In addition, Pelindo continues to optimize service digitization by implementing an autogate system in the four Regions to increase efficiency and facilitate operational processes.

"The implementation of this system is also supported by the availability of Information Centers and monitoring of passenger activities through the Control Room to provide security and comfort," he said.

Based on Pelindo data, Putut said the port with passengers in the Nataru period was the most in the last 2 years, namely Tanjungpinang Port.

"Then Tanjung Balai Karimun, Tanjung Perak, Makassar, Ambon and Parepare," he said.
