Deputy Speaker Of The House Of Representatives Highlights Suicide Cases Due To Pinjol, Calls Political Will The Government Minimized
JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal highlighted the many suicide cases due to online loans (pinjol). Cucun said that the political will or commitment of the Government is still minimal in solving the problem of borrowing that has harmed the community and the state.
"This loan is no longer just a financial problem but has also damaged various aspects of life, including the socio-economic community. Not a few people have committed suicide due to being entangled," Cucun told reporters, Thursday, December 19.
Cucun was surprised that the many impacts of borrowing that damaged the order of social life did not make policy makers make breakthroughs in eradicating online loans.
According to him, until now there is no political regulator to firmly eradicate loans. Even though the impact is very real for the community.
"This case of borrowing can take life, it should be a slap for the government and law enforcers to pay more attention to the welfare of the people," said the legislator from the West Java II electoral district.
Cucun also assessed that the lack of access to loans or healthy credit provided by the state made people switch to loans for the ease of conditions, even though the impact in the future was very large because of high interest.
"Pinjol has finally become a shortcut to get money just because the disbursement conditions are easy. Factors like this do not get the attention of policy makers," he said.
As is known, some time ago social media was shocked by the suicide incident carried out by a family in Kediri, East Java, due to debt bondage. Where the attempted suicide of 4 family members caused 1 2 year old child to die after consuming food mixed with rat poison.
There was also the incident of a mother in Donowarih Village, Karangploso District, Malang Regency who ended her life on July 21, 2023, allegedly because of debt, although it was not said for sure whether it was due to a loan.
Most recently, his family contained three people in Ciputat, South Tangerang, who were found dead on Sunday, December 15, allegedly because they were in debt. Last March, there were also 4 people in a family who were desperate to jump from the 22nd floor of the Teluk Intan Tower Topas Penjaringan Apartment, North Jakarta, who were said to be due to online loan problems.
