Google Uses AI To Prevent Spam And Fraud In Gmail
JAKARTA Fraud cases occur during the holiday season, especially at the end of the year. Based on Google's findings, email traffic has surged since November so Gmail's security needs to be increased.
Last year, Google released the latest security features in Gmail that succeeded in reducing the number of fraudulent reports related to phishing, malware, and so on. Unlike this year, Google is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to protect billions of inboxes.
"We are developing several innovative AI models that are significant to strengthen Gmail cyber defense, including the new big language model (LLM) we are training to detect phishing, malware, and spam," Google said in its latest report.
The NGO developed is able to recognize spam patterns and fraud and respond to suspicious messages quickly. Compared to the previous year, this NGO managed to block 20 percent more spam and review 1,000 times more spam that users report every day.
Google said it had used a new AI model before Black Friday, but it did not explain what its AI model was. This new model acts like a watchdog by evaluating hundreds of threat signals and applying appropriate protection.

"We are excited about this progress, but we usually see a second wave of attacks around this time in the holiday season as attackers adjust and try new things," Google said.
To avoid new fraud models, Google is trying to improve security systems on its platform. They continue to add AI-based protection to ensure users are protected from scams under the guise of phishing to spam.
"And we will adjust to them, continue to add new protections to keep the inbox safe. It's as important for you to stay alert and report suspicious emails as spam or phishing," Google said.
