Rupiah Makin Lesu Up To 1.08 Percent, Tembus To Rp16,271 Per US Dollar
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in trading Thursday, December 19, 2024, has weakened against the United States (US) dollar.
Quoting Bloomberg as of 10.08 WIB, the Rupiah exchange rate on Thursday, December 19, 2024, the rupiah spot exchange rate fell 1.08 percent to the level of Rp. 16,271 per US dollar.
Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong said the movement of the rupiah weakened against the US dollar which strengthened sharply after the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting where the Fed cut interest rates by 25 bps.
"But Powell made a very hawkish statement on the interest rate outlook indicating only a 50 bps cut next year, down from 75-100bps previously estimated," he told VOI, Thursday, December 19.
In addition, Lukman said the Fed also revised the projected economic growth higher than 2 percent to 2.5 percent.

Lukman estimates that the movement of the rupiah on Thursday, December 19 will be around Rp. 15,150-Rp. 15,300 per US dollar.
Director of PT Profit Forexindo Berjangka Ibrahim Assuaibi said that the movement of Rupiah was increasingly depreciated, with a direction towards the level of Rp. 16,500 per US dollar at the end of 2024.
"The rupiah this morning is increasingly depreciated, the direction towards 16,500 at the end of the year is likely to occur," he explained.
