Lamine Yamal's Agent Leaks Contract Extension Plan At Barcelona Until 2030

JAKARTA - Player's agent Jorge Mendes said Lamine Yamal would sign a new contract with Barcelona until 2030.

The plan cannot be separated from the target of the striker who wants to win the World Cup and Champions League rather than the Ballon d'Or.

The 17-year-old's contract with Barcelona expires in 2026. However, some sources explained to ESPN that when he signed the terms, there was a rough deal that would be extended to 2030.

When he renewed his contract, he was unable to sign a long-term contract because he was 16 years old.

He could commit to a longer contract when he turned 18 in July 2025.

"Of course he will renew his contract with Barcelona. Lamine is a Barcelona fan and he will sign a new contract," Mendes, who represented Yamal, told reporters on Monday, December 16, 2024, local time.

Yamal's contract, signed in October 2024, includes a release clause of 1 billion euros.

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, claimed in the summer that the club rejected a 250 million euro offer for the Spanish international.

Mendes spoke after Yamal won the Golden Boy award, an award given to the best male player under the age of 21 by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport every year.

After receiving the award, Yamal reaffirmed his desire to commit to his future at Barcelona.

He also hinted that targeting team success rather than individual awards, such as the Ballon d'Or, in the years to come.

"In five years, I imagined myself still at Barcelona. This is my club for the rest of my life."

"I want to win every trophy possible here. At the age of 21, my goal is to win the World Cup with Spain and the Champions League and two more La Liga titles with Barcelona," Yamal said.

Yamal is currently absent due to an ankle injury obtained when he lost to Leganes (0-1) on December 16, 2024.

Barcelona revealed that he would be out for up to four weeks. This means that Yamal will not be able to play in the top match of the La Liga standings against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, December 22, 2024, early morning WIB.

This is a huge loss for the Blaugrana, who have won only one of their last six league games. In 21 appearances in all competitions, Yamal has scored six goals and made 11 assists.
