Kupang Residents Full Smile, Used To Pay IDR 7,000 For Five Liters Of Clean Water Now Free

JAKARTA - Access to clean water is one of the problems faced by people in the Kupang area, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

In fact, residents have to spend Rp. 7,000 to get five liters of clean water.

Seeing the difficulties faced by the community, PT Indra Karya (Persero) implemented a clean water assistance program at SMP Negeri 15 Kupang City, NTT.

VP Corporate Secretary of PT Indra Karya (Persero) Okky Suryono explained that this program is one of the efforts to fulfill water as a basic need for the community to realize the welfare of the community, especially in the Kupang area, NTT.

"This assistance is one of the concrete steps in supporting the improvement of the quality of life of the community considering the high cost of purchasing clean water in Kupang which reaches around Rp. 7,000 per five liters which is a scourge for the local community," Okky said in an official statement, Wednesday, December 18.

Okky said the assistance provided by Indra Karya was in the form of the construction of a drilling well with a depth of 65 meters, the installation of three water reservoir units with a capacity of 720 liters and 2,200 liters, as well as the provision of single bins to support environmental management in schools.

Furthermore, Okky explained that the water distribution system was designed communally, with a pipe connection that would flow water directly to residential areas.

"Through this facility, the need for clean water for school needs and the surrounding community can now be met more easily and efficiently," he said.

Furthermore, Okky said that the positive impact of this program is expected to benefit 700 people, including 600 students of SMP Negeri 15 Kupang, 20 teaching staff, and the community around the school.

The clean water supply program is the Company's commitment to continue to support social and environmental development in a sustainable manner, as is President Prabowo Subianto's dream in Asta Cita to encourage clean water security.

This initiative is expected not only to be useful in reducing the burden on the community in meeting clean water needs, but also to be the first step to improve welfare.

In line with the spirit of national development, PT Indra Karya (Persero) in mobilizing infrastructure project development also carried out social responsibility through the clean water program in NTT which was attended by representatives of the Head of the Kupang Representative Office, Thommie Kurniawan Prayitno, on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
