Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake In Southern Java Due To Subduction Activity
JAKARTA - A 5.1 magnitude tectonic earthquake in the south of Java Island was caused by subduction activity.
The Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) released the earthquake occurred at 13.28 WIB with the epicenter of the earthquake located at coordinates 7.4 LS and 105.92 BT, or precisely located in the sea at a distance of 83 km southwest of Pelabuhan Ratu City, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The depth of the earthquake was 21 km.
"By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred is a type of shallow earthquake due to subduction activity. BMKG analysis results in preliminary information showed the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.1 then updated to magnitude 4.9.
The earthquake shock was felt in Kalapanunggal area, Cisaat Kab. Sukabumi III MMI (Vibration felt real in the house. The earthquake was also felt with a scale of II MMI in Jakarta, Bayah, Pelabuhan Ratu, Palangpang Ciemas, Sagaranten, Curug Kembar.
