UFC Boss Confident In Duel Jon Jones Vs Tom Aspinal Realized 2025
JAKARTA The boss of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, is confident that the fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will be realized next year.
White guaranteed the duel after the last UFC event of the year in Tampa at the weekend. He believes that if the fight occurs, it will break the record.
"Yes, I will say 100 percent (sure they will duel), 100 percent (of priority)," he said as reported by MMA Fighting.
This includes the bold statement that Dana White had made. He usually doesn't really believe that unless he already has a fight contract in hand.
This courage shows many things about plans around the clashes of Jones versus Aspinall ahead of the new year. So, most likely the duel will materialize.
"I think it might be the biggest fight in heavyweight history and it's also the biggest in the history of the company. It was a big fight," he said.
Before Jones dominated and defeated Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November 2024, White had also expected the winner of the duel to face Aspinall for the title unification.
Jones then played down the chance against Aspinall after his unbalanced win. He said he was more interested in fighting UFC lightweight heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
However, White immediately rejected the plan. He remains firm that Jones must accept the fight offer against Aspinall.
"So, usually those people say that nonsense is behind the scenes and not in public. Jon says that nonsense is public, but not behind the scenes," White said.
Jones refused the duel due to Aspinall's lack of experience in a big fight. Therefore, if he wins then it doesn't add much to his overall resummation and legacy.
Aspinall has so far had a record 8-1 at the UFC and only competed in two interim title fights. It's considered nothing compared to Jones' resume.
Even so, Aspinall is widely considered the top heavyweight fighter in this sport. So, the duel between the two is considered to have a very high selling value.
