Rob Flood Submerges Hundreds Of Houses On The North Coast Of Karawang
JAKARTA - Hundreds of houses and a number of fish ponds belonging to residents were flooded following the tidal flood in the northern coastal area of Karawang Regency, West Java.
"The tidal flood has occurred since the last few days, even now it is still inundating people's houses," said Bisri Mustopa, Head of Sedari Village, Cibuaya District, when contacted in Karawang, Sunday.
Bisri said that the tidal flood that occurred due to the tide hit three hamlets in his village with a height of about 70 centimeters.
In accordance with data collection, the floods that began to occur since Friday (13/12) submerged hundreds of residents' houses, public facilities and a number of fish ponds.
In Tirtasari Hamlet, there were 150 houses inhabited by 200 families who were submerged by the tidal flood. In addition, the tidal flood also submerged 215 houses inhabited by around 300 families in Karangsari Hamlet, and as many as 157 houses were submerged in tidal flooding in Tanjungsari Hamlet.
"The tidal flood also submerged the prayer room, roads and around 1,000 hectares of fish ponds belonging to residents," he said.
On this Sunday, he said, tidal flooding was still happening. Therefore, his party worked together with residents to build embankments along the coast to prevent more severe tidal flooding.
"The tidal flood occurred due to the phenomenon of high tides," he said.
In addition to Sedari Village, Cibuaya District, tidal flooding was also reported to have occurred in other northern coastal areas, namely Tambaksari Village, Tirtajaya District, Karawang.
In addition to submerging hundreds of residents' houses, tidal flooding in Tambaksari Village also inundated roads and hundreds of hectares of milkfish ponds owned by residents.
