PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) welcomes Christmas and New Year 2024 by inaugurating a new direct train route connecting Gambir Station, Jakarta with Semarang Tawang Station.
Some of these routes offer new alternatives for passengers who want to travel between Jakarta and Semarang without the need for transit.
Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi said that direct trains without transit are transportation innovations designed to facilitate mobility and improve services to the community.
In his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, Dudy explained that the Ministry of Transportation continues to strive to present various breakthroughs in the transportation sector. He also explained that the direct train had entered the trial stage.
Direct train itself is available exclusively to the public on 9 and 10 December 2024. In the future, the Ministry of Transportation will continue to evaluate the implementation of this service and monitor the public's response and interest in the innovation.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, stated that direct train service innovations were carried out to meet the needs of the community while improving the quality of transportation services.
Thohir expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Minister of Transportation who continues to provide direction to various parties, including the Ministry of SOEs and the land, sea, air, and rail transportation sectors.
On the other hand, the President Director of PT KAI, Didiek Hartantyo, explained that the launch of the direct train could be realized thanks to the discretion of the Minister of Transportation regarding the arrangement of the driver's working hours.
Didiek added that the evaluation of this service would be carried out based on the results of the ongoing trials.
In addition, Didiek also mentioned that the initial idea of this breakthrough came from the Minister of Transportation and emphasized that the innovation was fully supported by the Ministry of Transportation.
According to Didiek, the presence of direct train itself has considered various things, starting from ensuring that all governance, safety aspects, and crew readiness are in accordance with standards.
