JAKARTA - Dancer born in Indonesia and Australia, Juliet Widya Burnett marked her acting debut in the latest film Garin Nugroho, Samsara. She plays Sinta, a woman from a wealthy family who falls in love with a poor man named Darta and is played by Ario Bayu.
He admitted that he was interested in acting as well as being trusted to make choreography for a number of scenes in this film. He was trusted by Garin to make his own choreography.
I made a choreography for my life. I lived on the Gold Coast and at that time I was given a synopsis and the concept. I made some moves from there, "explained Juliet Burnett in a question and answer session on Friday, December 13.
"Actually it's good because it's a learning process for me to be open to the process. This is the first time I've worked for a film. Actually, I've worked on a short film but this is the first (for a long film)," said the nephew of the poet WS Rendra.
In the learning process, he received many lessons from Garin to discuss, especially making choreography as a form of communication on the storyline.
"It's hard to choreography on screens and stages and the quality must be more authentic and open to experts like Mas Garin to understand what can and can't. So I gave you a break and we discussed it," said Burnett.
"I'm also learning Balinese dance, I'm interested and here I'm learning Javanese dance. I put it in the choreography," he said.
Garin Nugroho is also interested in inviting Burnett to act after seeing his performance as a dancer.
"When I first saw it I wanted to invite Juliet Burnett to play at my place," said Garin Nugroho.
