Samsara Cine-Concert Presents Electronic And Gamelan Music, Held 3 Days

JAKARTA - Garin Nugroho in collaboration with the Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation presents the Samsara Cine-Concert performance, which is his latest film. This film is played by Ario Bayu and Juliet Widyasari Burnett in a silent film for an hour and a half.

Samsara set in Bali tells the story of a man named Darta (Ario Bayu) who is rejected by the family of his beloved woman, Sinta (Juliet Burnett). He made a supernatural agreement with the Monkey King to get wealth, but after getting all of them, Darta was tortured because he had to fulfill his promise to the Monkey King.

Garin Nugroho is happy that his latest film has received a good welcome, especially since this film is present in the Cine-Concert format which is still relatively new in Indonesia.

"Of course I'm happy with the performance at the Esplanade and get a good welcome then in Bali last time in Jogja and now in Jakarta it's a kind of ceremony, very different," Garin Nugroho said in a question and answer session on Friday, December 13.

"Samsara invites various friends from Bali, especially to be important in the midst of an era where we know silent films to be phenomenal," he said.

Samsara Cine-Concert will start on Friday, December 13 to Sunday, December 15 at Graha Bhakti Budaya in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta. This is the latest show before they continue their journey to Australia and various other countries by 2025.

"The challenge of cine-oncert every screening is not just playing movies where there are many aspects from technical, screen to image devices, so there must be a continuous scene," said Gita Fara as producer of Samsara.

"It should be noted that we practice with different gamelans, whether it's not appropriate, so we just picked up a gamelan from Jogja last night," Garin said.

"Samsara is not just a silent film but the interpretation of the electronic music script is branched into many approaches. Gabber Modus Operandi sees it sci-fi so he sees more klenik as fiction. His own technology has reached the gamelan barrel," said Kasimyn of Gabber Modus Operandi as a music arranger.

Samsara also won several awards at the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI), namely Best Director, Cinematography Director, Music Arranger, and Fashion Arranger.
