Exclusive Bryan Domani More Love For Indonesian Film After Becoming An FFI Ambassador
JAKARTA - Bryan Domani became one of many actors in Indonesian cinema who was chosen to be the Ambassador of the Indonesian Film Festival which was held last November. Bryan admitted that this was not something he had previously thought of, he even said that it took time to make this decision.
"Honestly, I didn't expect it! But when Prilly called me, then she offered this, I said, you sure? Then she finally showed me, here, your film that you all played with, you, you sure? We want you that. Moreover, now the theme is Marking the Indonesian cinema horizon. And indeed the concept is like cross-generation. Which one is the most mature Pak Slamet, then Kak Dian, Kak Camilla, Lutesha, and I. And in my generation, I've been the ambassador," said Bryan Domani at the VOI office, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, October 22.
"Si Angga has been an ambassador, Jefri has been an ambassador, so finally I was chosen, I was like, oh okay. I'm honored. At first I didn't want to, but I talked to Prilly like, 'give me time to think', then right away, 'yes, I can think, but don't take too long'. And on the same day, he finally said, 'take it.' This will be an opportunity for you.' And yes, it was something. I'm proud and don't regret it at all. I'm very grateful I took this opportunity, "he continued.
First time as the FFI Ambassador, Bryan got many tasks that he had to do, for example, introducing Indonesian films that were no less competitive with films from abroad to several cities in Indonesia.
"There's a lot of homework that I have to do. More precisely, it's like, the history of Indonesian cinema and others. Who is it. Because, I love movies, but I'm not cinephile, who really know details and so on. And maybe that's why they chose me too. Because, with this we want, the concept is more open, more transparent, more laid back, "explained Bryan Domani.
"And it's our job as ambassadors, to explain, what is the Indonesian film festival. What do we do, why is this, from when did this exist. So, so that, those who respect Indonesian films, or film festivals, it's not only a cinema, but also people, laymen who like films, but don't really love it yet. But with the hope that they end up loving Indonesian films. To show them like, we don't lose to foreign films, it's also good, good Indonesian films. So like, yes, "he continued.
Bryan could not deny that being the FFI Ambassador motivated him to spread love for Indonesian cinema to everyone so that he could appreciate the films made by the nation's children so that they could be known to the international level.
"Motivate me, to be more, spread, or spread out the love, for the film of Indonesia. Spreading like, you have to be proud too, with the creations of the nation's children, the films are like that. When we respect, it's a loss to people abroad, when people are abroad, they respect our films more than we ourselves. So, that's how it is. So, I ended up being, okay, then started checking films that, oh wow, there were thoughts like that. Yes, maybe, in theaters, it doesn't sell too much, but at the festival selling, and finally I can watch it, "he hoped.
"It's, okay, it turns out, we can be international, or event, more than international standard, but it only takes time and support from, we all do that," he said.
Bryan Domani proved his statement when he competed acting with Nadya Arina in a religious drama film entitled Dekenkah Aku Hijab. This film by director Hadrah Daeng Ratu is a joint work of the production house of Narasi Semesta and Legacy Pictures.
In this film, Bryan plays the character of Aksa who has a small friend named Sofi and faithfully accompanies his friend in all conditions of joy and sorrow in life. Bryan feels that Aksa has a character that is very different from himself, especially about patience.
"It's really sad, in my opinion, sometimes it's too little bit too patient. I'm Bryan, it can't be like that, but yes. If you are like Aksa, it's the top. The patience is great," said Bryan Domani.
"No, I don't think so. I don't know if it's the people who watch it. The problem is, in my opinion, to compare the characters with me, that's more people who can see it. But I don't think so. I'm a pretty impatient person. Especially for things I know, I'm not sure, okay. Why am I patient? Why would I waste my time?," he continued.
Several times playing in a drama that contains romance, Bryan Domani said that in this film he gets new things that need more time in discussions with the director and also his co-stars.
The challenge is more of a character that is quite reactive, not active, right. Characters who receive anything, follow Sofi who is pretty good. Not challenging, new. But yes challenges may be as usual. Like how to liven up the scene with Nadia," explained Bryan Domani.
"If you say it's difficult or not. But it's just a lot of people who need a lot, so because of new things, it's a lot. We have to go through a lot of discussions, a lot, 'Okay how do you talk about Nadia? Make your character'. Then with discussion. There's quite a lot of discussion that takes a long time. So that's what it takes, good discussion. But if it's not too difficult. It's more like it's just being a little complicated, "he explained.
Even though he has to return to playing in a romantic drama film, Bryan Domani admits that he doesn't have a problem because of his love for films that contain romance in them. For him, romance is an interesting conflict in a film.

"I think almost all Indonesian films have romance. I don't think there is any, almost all of them must have romance spices. I really like it, I like romance films. I'm bucin, so I like the elements of romance. But to distinguish it, because the characters are different from different situations, it will definitely be different in shape. So that's why the formation of characters and discussions between players must be in the newsletter first. What kind of romance is it usually in the field that will appear on its own, "explained Bryan Domani.
"I think romance is one of the things, because love is not a simple thing, love is complicated. So it's just fun to learn things that we think are the same, romance, but actually the perspective of each role I play is different. So I don't have a problem. If I play romance until later, I don't care, I like romance. I like romance," he said.
