Shootout, Indian Army Kills 7 Maois Rebels
JAKARTA - Indian military forces shot dead seven Maois rebels in a fierce firefight on Thursday 12 December.
The latest firefight occurred in a remote forest area in the Bastar region, the state of Chhattisgarh, which is the center of the uprising.
"So far seven Maos bodies, wearing uniforms, have been found during the search operation," said Police Inspector General P. Sunderraj, quoted by AFP.
Sunderraj said the victim is expected to increase with fierce resistance.

Over the decades, more than 10,000 people have been killed in the insurgency allegation launched by the Naxalite movement, as the Maois rebels call.
Maois admitted that he called for the struggle for the rights of indigenous peoples marginalized in the central Indian region, which is rich in resources.
Cases of insurgency have shrunk drastically in recent years.
Based on government data, more than 200 Maois rebels were killed throughout 2024.
