DPR Encourages Human Rights Development To Achieve The Aspirations Of Indonesia's Gold

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII DPR RI Andreas Hugo Pareira emphasized the importance of national development that is oriented towards fulfilling human rights (HAM). This is necessary to achieve the ideals of Indonesia Gold.

This was conveyed by Andreas during the moment of International Human Rights Day which is celebrated every December 10. This year is the commemoration of the 76th anniversary of World Human Rights Day, since the stipulation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (DUHAM) by the UN General Assembly in 1948.

"Protection and implementation of human rights are a reflection of a cultured nation. Because a nation and a country that is highly cultured and developed is a country that respects human rights," said Andreas Hugo Pareira, Tuesday (10/12/2024).

Therefore, according to Andreas, understanding, protection and improving the quality of respect for human rights is the key to building a civilization of the nation and a cultured country into a developed country.

"Indonesia as a country with a level of ethnic diversity, culture, religion, high language needs to pay a higher share of attention to human rights," he said.

Andreas reminded the second principle of Pancasila as the basis of the State of Indonesia which reads: just and civilized humanity. Through the second principle, said Andreas, Pancasila firmly and clearly places the human rights aspect as one of the basic pillars of the Indonesian state.

"So when this country declares towards 100 years of independence where Indonesia will enter the Golden Indonesia phase, the aspect of human rights development must be a pillar that supports the progress of Indonesian civilization as a cultured nation," said Andreas.

"A nation that sees diversity as a gift from God and cares for and develops it as the capital of the wealth and strength of the Indonesian nation," added the legislator from the NTT I electoral district.

Furthermore, Andreas emphasized the importance of a joint commitment to strengthening human rights enforcement in Indonesia. Especially related to the protection of groups that are often left behind and fulfill their basic rights.

"Commission XIII, which focuses on the field of law and human rights, will ensure the central role of the State in ensuring the welfare of the community through fair policies," said Andreas.

In commemoration of World Human Rights Day, Andreas invites all elements of the nation to reflect and evaluate the basic rights of the Indonesian people.

"It should be remembered that human rights includes the right to education, health services, decent work, and legal protection without discrimination," he said.

Andreas also stated that Commission XIII of the DPR will continue to encourage the strengthening of the human rights enforcement system in Indonesia. He also highlighted the need for inclusive and pro-people legal reforms, as well as ensuring that all national policies pay attention to aspects of social justice.

"We at Commission XIII are committed to overseeing policies that focus on fulfilling human rights, including ensuring fair regulations for all levels of society," Andreas said.

In line with the theme Human Rights Day or World Human Rights Day in 2024, namely 'Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now', Andreas said that Indonesia still has challenges in upholding human rights, through concrete achievements.

"To face these challenges, we at the DPR will oversee so that the mechanism for human rights complaints can be further improved and law enforcement is more transparent. Including enforcing fair rule of law and eliminating structural discrimination," he explained.

Andreas said that the existing progress should not make Indonesia careless. Because there is still a lot of big homework to ensure that all citizens, without exception, can enjoy their rights in full.

"This is our common task. All stakeholders must be able to ensure the creation of human rights enforcement and protection. The Indonesian House of Representatives, especially Commission XIII, will continue to ensure that this effort goes well through the legislative, supervisory, and budgetary functions", Andreas concluded.
