Coordinating Minister Yusril Discourse On Changing The Dutch East Indies Heritage Corruption Act
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the government plans to make changes to the current Corruption Crime Law (UU Tipikor).
According to him, the plan to change was carried out because it was considered that he had been participating in the Dutch East Indies heritage for too long.
"We know that the spirit of law enforcement in the national Criminal Code is much different from the spirit of law enforcement that we inherited from the colonial government of the Dutch East Indies," said Yusril at the KPK Anti-Corruption Education Center Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 10, which was confiscated by Antara.
Yusri said the Dutch East Indies heritage law emphasized more on corporal punishment and revenge. This contradicts the current rules, which prioritize restorative justice and rehabilitation.
The changes will also align the Anti-Corruption Law with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) which has been ratified through Law Number 7 of 2006 concerning the Ratification of UNCAC.
"We are now more on the restorative justice approach and then rehabilitative, we are restoring the situation and therefore the mandate in UNCAC is more emphasis on asset recovery, somewhat different from what is now emphasized in the Anti-Corruption Law, namely the aspect of state losses," he said.

Yusril has not explained in more detail about the timeline for changing the Anti-Corruption Law, but he emphasized that this must be done as quickly as possible.
"This is a discourse that we must immediately resolve and hopefully during President Prabowo Subianto's administration, this will be resolved in a fast time," he said.
As is known, eradicating corruption is a program of President Prabowo Subianto. This is contained in Astacita Number 7 which includes strengthening political reforms of law and bureaucracy and strengthening the prevention and eradication of corruption.
