JAKARTA - The official FIBA Asia Cup logo was launched. Indonesia is ready to host the Asian basketball championship that will take place at Istora Senayan on August 17-29, 2021.
FIBA Asia Cup 2021 will be the inaugural international sporting event at the Asian level for Indonesia after more than a year the whole world refrained from holding sports competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The logo launch was attended by Gatot Dewa Broto, Sesmenpora, Hagop Khajirian, Executive Director of FIBA Asia, Junas Miradiarsyah, Chairman of the Jakarta FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Organizing Committee, and Francis Wanandi who represents PB Pebasi.
"I am excited to welcome the launch of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 logo. A logo that brings a strong Indonesian identity into it. I am very confident that the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 logo will inspire all young people, basketball fans in Indonesia and all over Asia to support this amazing event," said Gatot Dewabroto, Semenpora in a written statement received by the editor.
The FIBA Asia Cup 2021 logo features a trophy surrounded by a design that combines Batik patterns and Javanese Eagle references. "The launch of this logo is an important milestone on the way to the 2021 FIBA Asian Cup. This visual icon combines the unique attributes of the FIBA Asian Cup and Indonesia as the host country," said FIBA Asia Executive Director Hagop Khajirian.
In 1993, Jakarta hosted the Asian Basketball Confideration Championship. Now after 28 years, the opportunity to hold an Asian-level basketball championship will lift Indonesia's name in the international basketball scene.
"This is the first international championship for Indonesia this year in the midst of a pandemic. This is a challenge, as well as an opportunity for us as the organizers to hold the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 successfully and meet the expectations of FIBA Asia member countries," said Junas Miradiarsyah, Chairman of the Jakarta FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Organizing Committee.
PB Perbasi itself stated that it will coordinate and communicate with FIBA Asia so that this major event is successful, smooth, and by continuing to implement health protocols.
"Therefore, we will make the best preparation, both in organizing and also forming an Indonesian national team that is able to compete with other participants. This is a valuable opportunity that indonesian players should use to show the best game so that they can raise the level of competition and game at the Asian level," explained Francis Wanandi.
