Viral Pertamax Causes Damaged Vehicles, DPR Urges Pertamina Evaluation: "If You Can't Present Cheap And Quality Fuel, Just Disband!"
JAKARTA Member of Commission VI DPR RI, Mufti Anam, highlighted the viral reports of vehicle damage due to the use of Pertamax Fuel (BBM). Mufti urged PT Pertamina (Persero) to be responsible and immediately evaluate the quality of the fuel products produced.
"If Pertamina can't bring cheap and quality fuel, just disband! Why talk about energy sovereignty if people are charged with expensive fuel prices and low quality," said Mufti in his statement, Tuesday, December 10.
Mufti asked Pertamina to ensure that the products they sell are safe and according to standards. According to him, Pertamina must show its commitment to quality and responsibility as a national energy provider.
"Pertamina must provide reliable quality guarantees. If necessary, do an open trial to prove the reliability of their products," he said.
Mufti also mentioned that cases of vehicle damage due to Pertamax occurred in his electoral district, Pasuruan, East Java. He revealed that many residents now prefer to buy fuel from BP gas stations, oil and gas companies from England, even though they have to travel long distances to Surabaya or Malang.
"They feel that fuel from BP is more economical and quality, although prices are not much different. This is an indicator that people are not satisfied with Pertamina's products," he said.
In addition to the quality of fuel, Mufti also highlighted distribution practices that often harm consumers. He urged Pertamina to improve the monitoring system for partners managing gas stations.
"The fraud at gas stations has become a common secret. Pertamina must seriously strengthen supervision and ensure that there is no practice of harming consumers," said Mufti.
Mufti asked the government and Pertamina to convey the results of an open investigation to the public. This is to avoid the assumption that public complaints are ignored.
"The government and Pertamina must be transparent about this investigation. If there is clear evidence, the people will not feel cheated," he concluded.

On the other hand, PT Pertamina (Persero) has tested the reported problematic Pertamax samples. As a result, Pertamina claims that their products have met the required technical specifications.
However, the polemic about the quality of Pertamina's fuel continues to emerge. Since 2023, this issue has often been in the spotlight, especially regarding sulfur standards and their impact on the environment. Pertamina is also required not only to improve the quality of fuel, but also to improve services and overall distribution supervision.
