Hakordia 2024, Speaker Of The House Of Representatives Invites Indonesia's Young Generation To Help Fight Corruption
JAKARTA - The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, invited the younger generation of Indonesia to help fight corruption practices on World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2024. According to her, the role of youth is very much needed to make Indonesia free from corruption.
"On this moment of World Anti-Corruption Day 2024 today, I invite the entire community to continue to support efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia," said Puan Maharani, Monday, December 9.
In particular, I invite the younger generation to actively participate in fighting corruption. As a agents of change, youth has great potential to fight for Indonesia to be free from corruption," he continued.
According to Puan, with a total of about 1.9 billion young people in the world, youth can answer various challenges related to corruption issues. Moreover, she said, currently the majority of the younger generation have a high level of education and are a critical generation.
"In addition to cultivating life that is free from corrupt behavior, the younger generation can participate in overseeing every state policy to ensure that Indonesia is free from corruption. Young people are the foundation of this nation to have a brighter future," said Puan.
On the other hand, the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture asked corruption law enforcement to run fairly and transparently. According to Puan, corruption is a critical problem that must be eradicated properly.
"The government, through the KPK, must ensure that law enforcement runs fairly, transparently, and free from political intervention. Politicization will only weaken efforts to eradicate corruption and injure people's sense of justice," he said.
Puan also emphasized that independence is an important thing for law enforcement agencies in eradicating corruption. Especially for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as a special institution that handles corruption cases in Indonesia.
"I hope there will be no politicization in the process of eradicating corruption, so that public trust in the KPK can be maintained," said Puan.
Puan hopes that World Anti-Corruption Day will not only be used as a celebration or ceremony without concrete action.
"All elements of the nation must work together and synergize to create Indonesia that is free from corrupt practices," said Bung Karno's grandson.
"This World Anti-Corruption Day should serve as a reminder that the fight against corruption is our common task," he added.
At the momentum of Hakordia 2024, Puan advised the candidate for KPK leadership who had just been elected through a fit and proper test (fit and proper test) of the DPR to be able to mitigate and prevent corruption practices effectively.
"The KPK leadership in the future must have a clear vision to prevent corruption from an early age. Not only through prosecution, but also by strengthening prevention in all lines," he concluded.
As is known, World Anti-Corruption Day or International Anti-Corruption Day is celebrated every December 9 which is stipulated through the United Nations Convention (UN) and comes into effect in 2005.
The commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day aims to raise awareness about corruption and highlight the role of the convention in overcoming it. In 2024, the United Nations takes the theme "Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Sharing Tomorrow's Integrity" or "United with Youth Against Corruption: Establishing Future Integrity".
