Maximize Handling Floods, DKI SDA Office Optimizes Maintenance Of Pump Houses

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency optimizes the maintenance and operation of flood control facilities including pump houses so that they can work optimally to deal with flooding.

"Anticipation of floods carried out by optimizing the operation and maintenance/maintainment of flood control facilities and infrastructure," said Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Office, Hendri, quoting Antara.

Optimization is carried out in pump houses, floodgates and heavy equipment preparation so that they can work optimally during pre-flood conditions or during flood management.

DKI Jakarta currently has 202 pump houses with a total of 593 pump units in five Jakarta areas. These pumps work to channel water that cannot flow gravity considering that some areas of Jakarta are below sea level.

The location for the distribution of this pump house, namely in East Jakarta as many as 26 pump house locations with 58 pumps, West Jakarta with 47 pump houses and 148 pump units.

In Central Jakarta, there are 28 pump house locations with 108 pump units, in South Jakarta there are 48 pump house locations with 116 pump units and in North Jakarta with 53 pump house locations and 165 pump units.

Hendri said other efforts were also made, namely dredging river mud, river, reservoir and canal sediments in five administrative cities in Jakarta.

Then, mapping the location of the flood or inundation to speed up handling in flood areas or inundation.

"During conditions before entering the rainy season, the Natural Resources Service also continues to carry out the construction of flood control infrastructure to minimize inundation during the rainy season," said Hendri.

To anticipate flooding, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has held a disaster preparedness rally and ensures that flood management infrastructure can work optimally.

This is done to anticipate the potential for high rainfall on December 6-9, 2024 based on the predicted Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG).

Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi asked the agencies in the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government such as SDA, Bina Marga, Social Service, Health Service and others to prepare mitigation measures for flood management, including human resources.
