Alluding To Ethical Violations In Presidential And Regional Head Elections, PDIP Legislators Propose A Form Of The Presidential Institutional Law
JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR RI from the PDIP faction, TB Hasanuddin, warned of a violation of the president's ethics in holding the 2024 presidential and regional elections. According to him, the establishment of a law (UU) related to the Presidential Institution is urgent.
"The law is to maintain the dignity of the presidential institution so that whoever the president does not violate the political ethics of the state and injure democratic values in carrying out executive power in this republic," said TB Hasanuddin, Friday, December 6.
Hasanuddin assessed that there were many ethical violations in the Indonesian democratic party in 2024, both the presidential and simultaneous regional elections that had just been held. According to him, it is very clear that the public is shown openly behavior that is unethical and injures democratic values by the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the current President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto.
"During the 2024 presidential election campaign period, for example, President Jokowi was excited to report a dinner with Prabowo's presidential candidate ahead of the debate, even his photo circulated in the media," he explained.
The West Java electoral district PDIP legislator also revealed the unethical practice carried out by the president by participating in campaigning for a number of candidate pairs in the Pilkada. Precisely when President Prabowo straightforwardly gave his support to Ahmad Lutfhi-Taj Yasin's pair in the Central Java gubernatorial election.
"Even for the Jakarta Pilkada, an invitation letter to the people of Jakarta made by President Prabowo to choose the Ridwan Kamil-Suswono candidate pair circulated during the campaign peace period," said Kang TB.
Hasanuddin reminded that a statesman and the highest leadership such as the President should refrain from electoral politics. Because he said, the president was obliged to ensure that the election took place democratically, without intervention, or fraud in order to produce quality leaders.
"If the president represents certain candidate pairs in the election, it will make the situation worse. It is not impossible that the participation of the president as a particular candidate pair campaigner will lead to social conflict and division of the nation's children," he said.
Hasanuddin also said that the President who had been inaugurated belonged to all Indonesian people, not belonging to one group and certain groups. On this basis, he considered that the existence of the Presidential Institution Law was very urgent.
"The Presidential Institute's Law must at least regulate a ban on the President to show partiality to certain candidate pairs/groups," he said.
Hasanuddin also suggested that the Presidential Institution Law prohibits the president from using his power to distribute government assistance with the aim of certain candidate pairs electorals.
