Kevin De Bruyne Doubts Future At Manchester City

JAKARTA - Kevin De Bruyne admits that he doesn't know whether this season will be his final season at Manchester City or not.

De Bruyne's contract expires at the end of the season. He said he had discussed with the club earlier this season, but he was only focused on rediscovering his best form after battling an injury.

Pep Guardiola's plan to play De Bruyne as a starter against Feyenoord in the Champions League on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, was also canceled.

He only appeared as a substitute. Likewise, when Manchester City lost to Liverpool at Anfield last weekend, December 1, 2024.

"To be honest I don't know (the future at Manchester City). At the start of the season, I knew talks were going to happen."

De Bruyne is entering its 10th season in Manchester City and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia's Pro League club and Major League Soccer (MLS), San Diego FC.

Pep Guardiola will also expire his contract in the summer before signing a contract extension for two years.

De Bruyne has hinted that Guardiola's survival could affect his decision after winning six joint Premier League titles.

"It can help (influentially stay at Manchester City). I know what will happen in the future."

"I don't need to talk to Pep about what will happen in the future. If there is a new coach, you have to talk."

"If Pep changes his mind and says thank you Kevin, it's time to go."

"However, I know how he works with the team and the players. So, that's nothing new for me."

"The questions are coming, but I can only give the answer I'm currently giving."

"Talks will come, if there is no talk, it will be my last year. I just want to play football well," said De Bruyne.

Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne did not rule out contract issues because Manchester City is currently slumping.

As is known, in the last seven matches in all competitions, The Citizens never won, six defeats and one draw.

De Bruyne just wants his fitness back to normal and contributes optimally to the team.

After all, the league journey is still long despite Manchester City being flooded with pressure that they will not be able to defend the Premier League title, especially after swallowing four consecutive defeats.

Pep Guardiola dismissed the prediction. He is still confident that there are still many possibilities at the end of the season, including the Citizens' more league champions.
