Liverpool Should Not Be Dissolved In Euphoria, Maintaining Fitness Is The Key

JAKARTA - Liverpool are in a good mood before traveling to Newcastle United headquarters on Thursday, December 5, 2024, early morning WIB.

They went through the tough week very well, overthrowing Real Madrid (2-0) in the Champions League and beating Manchester City (2-0) in the Premier League, all at Anfield.

However, the Reds Manager, Arne Slot, emphasized that his troops should not be dissolved in the euphoria.

He asked his squad to focus on looking at the home match against Newcastle in order to continue the positive trend and of course strengthen the position at the top of the 2024/2025 Premier League standings.

"Playing against Real Madrid, playing against Manchester City, a team that has and is still very, very good with managers who have won so many trophies, it's always fun to come out victorious in such situations."

"However, the reason why the teams won so many trophies was because they couldn't win once or twice."

"They are able to win every game. We are very happy with these two wins, but we want to achieve more than this."

"Win once or twice, even against these big teams, not enough to win anything at the end of the season," said Arne Slot ahead of the match against Newcastle.

Even though Liverpool are currently nine points clear of Arsenal and Chelsea who are below them, Arne Slot doesn't want his team to slip.

The Dutch manager saw Arsenal and Chelsea's performance as well as being good and threatening the position of the Reds at the top of the standings.

Therefore, he wants his students to still have a consistent appearance until the end of the season. Forget previous wins and always give birth to thirst for victory is key.

"I saw Arsenal and Chelsea, they were all able to get the same win in a row as we had."

"So, don't get carried away with one or two wins. It's all about consistency until the end of the season, maintaining the fitness of the players and making them play with this much energy." said Slot at ESPN.

Maintaining consistency is not an easy matter, especially since it has entered December, the month, which has always been known as the busiest period in the Premier League.

You see, there are no holidays for England teams during the fashion season (Christmas and New Year) like other European leagues.

Ahead of the match against Newcastle alone, Liverpool's stock of defenders has been parried following the injuries of Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley, and Kostas Tsimikas.

Luckily, Arne Slot is aware of that by taking a number of anticipations. For example, not playing in full Trent Alexander-Arnold against Manchester City.

"Coor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate will be out for a few weeks. They certainly won't be on the team this week. I don't think Kostas will be with us next week either."

"The players available today are very important for them to stay fit. That's why I pulled Trent (Alexander-Arnold) out after 70 minutes (against Manchester City)."

"He was able to play longer, he played very well, defended very well again, and became a huge threat in attack."

"However, knowing that we will face Newcastle on Thursday and then Derby Merseyside on Saturday (December 7, 2024) with only five (defensive players) available, we have to look after them," said Arne Slot again.

Arne Slot must be smart in maintaining the fitness of his players if he doesn't want to slip both in the domestic league and European tournaments.

After the next two Premier League matches, they returned to the Champions League with a trip to Girona's headquarters on December 11, 2024.
