Commission II Asks The Ministry Of Home Affairs To Appoint The Best Regional Head In The Empty Box Area To Win
JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR has approved the KPU option to carry out a Re-Pilkada in an area won by an empty box on August 27, 2025. This happened in the Bangka Pilbup and Pangkalpinang Pilwakot if it was in accordance with the quick count or quick count results.
"Today we have decided an important thing, one day before the DPR RI recess, namely the schedule for the election of governors, regents and mayors to return to 2025 as a consequence of more choosing empty columns, compared to candidate pairs," said Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Rifqinizami Karsayuda, Wednesday, December 4.
"The certainty is that they are still waiting for the recapitulation of votes in each regency city or province, but at least, the Indonesian KPU and all election organizers and Commission II of the DPR RI have provided legal certainty regarding this matter," he continued.
Meanwhile, these areas will be led by an official (Pj), either by the Acting Governor, Acting Mayor or Acting Regent.
"Filled by the official, that's why later we will also hang out the acting together. Hopefully the Ministry of Home Affairs will give the best officials to carry out this. Because he will serve almost 1 year of budget period," said Rifqi.
In the implementation of the 2025 Re-Pilkada, Rifqi explained that the Regency/City did not provide the APBD to organize it.
However, the government, in this case the Ministry of Home Affairs, expressed its readiness to carry out various expectations including APBN assistance.
"If needed as the regulatory space opened by Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning the election for governors of regents and mayors," he explained.
Rifqi emphasized that Commission II of the DPR respects the ongoing recapitulation process, including the possibility of disputes in the Constitutional Court by candidate pairs who feel they have constitutional and legal standing rights regarding this matter.
According to him, Commission II of the DPR has agreed to choose the option of August 27, 2025, compared to the September 24, 2025 offered by the KPU because the regions that carry out the regional elections will have a definitive regional head faster.
"The sooner the better, because we want one periodization to remain in 2025. So that later the period will be 2025-2030. Because if later at the end, we are worried that there will end up a dispute, entering the period in 2026," said Rifqi.
"Substantively, we don't want to harm the definitive elected officials much, because the period should be five years because this will definitely be less than 5 years, and most importantly the people of the area must quickly get a decision from the election," he concluded.
