Puan Inaugurates The DPR Intelligence Supervisory Team, People's Representatives Supervise The Performance Of State Intelligence

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, inaugurated the Intelligence Supervisory Team formed by the DPR. This team is a representation of the people in supervising the performance of state intelligence so as not to deviate from their main duties and work functions.

The inauguration of the DPR Intelligence Supervisory Team was held in the House of Representatives Commission I Meeting Room, Nusantara II Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (3/12/2024). This team is under the coordination of Sufmi Dasco Ahmad as Deputy Chair of the Indonesian Parliament Coordinator for Political and Security Affairs (Korpolkam).

"Later on, the task can be to synergize between all ministries/agencies, so that things that we need to anticipate or mitigate can be carried out properly and correctly," said Puan after inaugurating the DPR Intelligence Supervisory Team.

The formation of the Intelligence Supervisory Team is a follow-up to Law Number 17 of 2011 concerning State Intelligence. Article 43 paragraph (2) of the Law states that external supervision of State Intelligence operators is carried out by commissions at the Indonesian People's Representative Council which specifically handles intelligence, in this case is Commission I of the DPR.

In total there are 13 members of the Intelligence Supervisory Team from the DPR, of which 5 people are leaders. The five leaders of the DPR Intelligence Supervisory Team are Utut Adianto, Dave Lasono, G. Budisatrio Djiwanno, Ahmad Heryawan, and Anton Sukartono.

Puan hopes that the DPR Intelligence Supervisory Team can synergize with institutions or agencies related to intelligence as well as possible, such as the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), to the National Police Intelligence and Security Agency (Baintelkam).

"What is certain is that there must be synergy and coordination among all related parties so that we can build the nation and state without any misunderstanding," said the first woman who served as Chair of the DPR RI.

The task of State intelligence itself is to detect, identify, assess, analyze, interpret, and present intelligence in order to provide early warnings to anticipate various possible forms and properties of potential and real threats to the safety and existence of the nation and state as well as opportunities that exist for national interests and security.

Meanwhile, the team that has been inaugurated today has the task of representing the public so that state intelligence institutions can work according to their main duties and functions. That way, people can believe in the agency that holds many secrets of the country.

Therefore, Puan emphasized the importance of cooperation between relevant stakeholders in order to optimally carry out the functions and duties of state intelligence.

"So that they have the same spirit, namely building a nation and a country properly without interests that harm the country," said Puan.
