Bong Joon Ho Becomes An Oscar-Nominated Reader
JAKARTA - Director Bong Joon Ho will attend this month's Academy Awards ceremony. She is scheduled to appear as a presenter to announce the award winners.
Bong Joon Ho's film Parasite received four Oscars last year, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Bong was one of 15 other presenters including Halle Berry, Laura Dern, Harrison Ford, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Reese Witherspoon, and others.
Although not mentioned, Deadline reported Bong Joon Ho was projected to read out the winner of the Best Director award.
In the ranks of Best Director nominations, there are five directors who contest the trophy. Lee Isaac Chung with Minari, Thomas Vinterberg with Another Round, David Fincher with Mank, Chloe Zhao with Nomadland, and Emerald Fennell with Promising Young Woman.
Minari, a film about Korean family life received five nominations, among them Youn Yuh Jung for Best Supporting Actress and Han Yeri for Best Score.
The Oscar awards ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and several other venues on April 25.
