Here's Hutama Karya's Strategy To Reduce Accident Rates On Toll Roads During Nataru Holidays

JAKARTA - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has prepared a number of strategies to prevent accidents during the Christmas and New Year 2025 holidays.

This strategy includes microsleep operations carried out at accident-prone points, namely sympathetic operations in the form of distributing free snacks and coffee to road users, especially at rest points. This is done as a measure to anticipate fatigue and sleepiness.

Then, Operation Over Dimension Overload (ODOL) at the main toll gate (GT) to ensure that vehicles do not carry excess loads, add security posts and health posts in collaboration with the police and related agencies.

Then, the installation of warning signs and Variable Message Signs (VMS) in locations prone to accidents and maintenance points to make drivers more vigilant.

"With these strategies, we hope to reduce the number of accidents to a minimum of zero fatality during the Nataru holiday," said Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary Hutama Karya Adjib Al Hakim as quoted from the official website of Hutama Karya, Wednesday, December 4.

Previously, a number of steps had been taken to anticipate accidents on toll roads through the Driving Safety Campaign "Congratulations to Goals" (Agreed).

It is known, this is not only aimed at increasing awareness of road users, but also forming a safe habit for drivers, reducing accident rates and improving safety quality.

This initiative is carried out through various approaches and communication media, such as microsleep operations and sympathetic operations, safety trading education to talk show safety trading.

Through 44 microsleep operations that were held, more than 2,700 drivers were successfully monitored for their physical and vehicle conditions, of which 173 drivers were found sleepy or asked to rest first and get education about the importance of driving safely at night.

This operation is spread across several toll roads, such as the JORRS Toll Road, the Terbanggi Besar 'Kayu Agung Toll Road, the IndralayaPrabumulih Toll Road, the BengkuluTaba Penanjung Toll Road, the PekanbaruDumai Toll Road, the PekanbaruXIII Koto Kampar Toll Road, the BinjaiLangsa Toll Road, the IndrapuraSigli' Toll Road and the Banda Aceh Toll Road.

Meanwhile, from sympathetic operations throughout the year, Hutama Karya has distributed more than 5,000 snack and coffee packages to to toll road users.

"Through various AGREEd Campaign initiatives, we recorded a 31 percent decrease in the number of accidents (YoY) in all sections of Hutama Karya Toll Road. We hope that this safety message will also be implemented optimally during the 2024/2025 Nataru," he concluded.
